Residential Life | Intermediate Program
Living on the campus of Wellesley College is not only a lot of fun, but also a great learning experience. For many students, Explo is their first time living with a roommate, the first time they do laundry on their own, or the first time they've had so much choice about how they spend their day. And while you'll learn what it's like to live away from home, you won't be on your own. Your Residential Advisors or Day Advisors, the staff members who lead your living or day group, will be with you every step of the way, making sure you're comfortable, safe, and happy — and ensuring you make the most of your time at Explo.
In your living or day group, you'll find new friends from around the world or down the street. As you become involved in your classes and activities, you'll meet even more people who share your interests. What you will find at the Intermediate Program is a community of staff and students who will encourage you to try new things, experience new ideas, ask questions, and search for answers.
As a residential student, you will be placed with a roommate based on your answers to a housing questionnaire. Your new roommate could be from New York, California, France, Japan, or many other states and countries. You and your roommate will be part of a living group with approximately 16 other students. Each living group is led by two Residential Advisors who live on your floor and check in with you formally and informally throughout the day, keeping you aware of all events and activities. You and your living group will get to know each other well — many students make life-long friends in their living groups.

Tori is a swimmer from New York getting ready to enter 8th grade. After a week of an intense swim camp, she is happy to be trying new activities and meeting new people at Explo. In fact, after only a week here, she already refers to her living group as a second family!
So what’s the strangest thing you packed?
[Laughs] The strangest thing. . . I don’t know. I packed a box of string for bracelets. I made all these [showing the bracelets on her wrists].
Wow! Those look great! And really intricate. What else do you like to do in your spare time?
Well, here we have hall parties. We get ice cream and bring it up to our halls and stash it in our freezer. We all go into the empty room on our hall and eat ice cream at night. We’re always goofing off and doing crazy stuff, having fun in our hall. I find it really fun that our hall has gotten so close in such a short amount of time. Everyone in our hall has something different about them, something unique that no one has or is except them.
