Extracurriculars | Intermediate Program

Activity periods at Explo provide the perfect opportunity to seek out a variety of new experiences. Whether you’re hoping to pick up your first paintbrush, grab your first lacrosse stick, paddle your first canoe, or strum your first notes on a guitar, you’ll find more than a dozen different activity options to choose from each day. Activity periods are organized and led by staff members, and are a great opportunity for you to meet other students at the Program who share your talents and interests.

Living and day group activities are a great way to bond with your residential or day group. Each week, your living or day group plans an activity or event especially for your group. Past living and day group activities have included making short films, challenging another living or day group to a soccer game, the Explo Olympics, building giant tricycles, and painting wall murals.
After a day filled with stimulating activities and challenging courses, your evenings are filled with a wide array of events designed to entertain you, expose you to new ideas, and give you and your friends a chance to have some fun. On a typical evening, you will choose from between two and four different main events.

Staff Improv Night, Bumper Cars and Batting Cages, Carnival Night, Tae Kwon Do Demonstration, Open Forum Discussions, Friday Night Dances, Battle of the Bands, Open Mic, African Drumming, Student Coffee House, Brain Wars, Shakespeare Night, Off-Campus Movie Night, Sports Center Night, Explo Idol, Swing Dancing, Boston Harbor Cruise Night, and more!

In addition to daily recreational options during activity periods, we occasionally provide opportunities for further exploration through panel and group discussions, as well as guest speakers. Topics are always presented in an age-appropriate manner and may include the death penalty, sexual orientation, international human rights abuses, domestic violence, freedom of speech, and racism.
