With Some Help, Many Families Can Afford Explo
Developing and running innovative, safe, and well supervised summer programs on extraordinary campuses is an expensive endeavor. That means that some families may look at the cost of Explo and conclude that it is unaffordable. But we ask those families to take a second look. Explo is a very diverse community and part of that diversity is making sure that students from every quarter join our summer community. To make that happen, Explo offers grants and scholarships to students who can demonstrate financial need.
We know that every family is different and that there are many factors that impact how much a family can afford. Because every family's situation is unique, we do not have a prescribed ceiling on family income for the purposes of determining grant or scholarship eligibility. We consider high housing costs for areas, tuition being paid for other children, caring for other family members, and a number of other factors in determining eligibility.*

We can't confirm what an award would be without actually receiving the right documentation, but we can certainly help determine if you qualify and which of our financial aid options best suits your family. It May Be a Stretch, But It's Worth It
Explo provides students with tremendous opportunities. Over and over we hear from students and parents how Explo has changed lives — from inspiring students to raise their aspirations, to showing them what it means to be a global citizen, to developing lifelong friends and connections. For many families, there is a way to make the Explo experience happen. We hope you’ll investigate the options.
Scholarships:
- From $1,200 up to full tuition
- Families must first qualify based on financial need. Explo makes award decisions after considering merit components, such as a student's personal statement, grades, and teacher comments.
- Do not send in a deposit
- Scholarship decisions are made by the end of April
- Late applications will not be considered
Grants:
- Up to $1,200 for residential, $600 for day, and $850 for Focus, but are subject to change
- Based only on financial need
- Send in a deposit
- Grant decisions are made shortly after Explo receives the family's financial information
- Full tuition, less the amount of the grant, is due no later than May 1, 2012
* Limited aid is available for international families. Grant and scholarship aid levels are somewhat different if students are coming from outside of the United States. Please note that scholarship aid is not available for Explo English.
